The foundation of Special Springs: From a Dream to a Global Excellence

Dear readers,
let us continue with our journey at the discovery of the roots of Special Springs, telling you how determination, talent, and innovative spirit of the Cappeller family have created the company that you currently know.

A Childhood of Sacrifice and Promises
Augusto Cappeller, first child of Giovanna and Cesare, was born the 24th of march 1946 from a family that, after the years as Circus owner, had stopped in Cartigliano, a small village on the bank of river Brenta. The family had grown: 6 kids and a difficult situation after the war, with limited resources. In this period, Augusto, still a child, made a promise: “When I grow up, I will help you.”

The Road Towards Entrepreneurship
As a young man, Augusto worked in a tannery to help sustain the family, while during the evening he attended a technical school, were he excelled as one of the best students. His passion and curiosity brought him to work in a spring company, where he saw for the first time the wire to be transformed into a spring.
It was love at first sight.” It was magic, and I knew that magic would have been part of my life.” In 1968, after years of hard work and with the support of his family, Augusto founded “Mollificio Cappeller”, a small workshop bound to grow. With dedication and patience, the company gained trust and customers, fuelled by the values inherited by the parents: perseverance and long-term vision.

The Beginning of a Family Adventure
In 1971, after the military service, Luciano Cappeller joined as partner. The company became an unlimited company and with the unceasing effort of the two brothers, Mollifico Cappeller began to expand. In 1974 also the third brother Dante joined the company, reinforcing the family-run characteristics.

The Foundation of Special Springs
In 1978, after a new intuition and following the request of the customers, Augusto and Luciano founded Special Springs, with an international vision in their mind, putting as starting point the name of the company. This new reality was dedicated to wire die springs, an emerging market which The Cappeller Family was able to evaluate with innovation and quality.

Innovation and Constant Growth
Special Springs has always aimed at technical excellence and at solving customers’ problems. From the innovative adoption of the nitriding treatment on gas springs in thew 90s, to the capacity of ensuring incomparable precision and duration, the company defined a leading role on the market. With a production increasing from 20 pcs a week to 650000 pcs a year, Special Springs is synonym of quality, affordability, and speed.

A Family Inheritance
While the company was growing, the next generation was growing. Rebecca, daughter of Augusto, and Dante, Son of Luciano, were born surrounded by the company environment, absorbing the values for work, passion and dedication which characterized their parents.
Special Springs is not only a company, but a family history, made by courage, sacrifice and vision. As Augusto says: “My father hasn’t left me anything material, but has given me everything I need to prove myself in life”.

Between the teachings that Augusto received from his father Cesare, one has remained in his mind, becoming a reference point for all his life. He was only 12 years old, and was working with his father at the tannery. It was lunch time, father and son were walking in the company yard. Augusto, his head bent towards the ground and heavy-hearted, was not able to hide sadness.
At some point, he raised the face towards his father and asked: “Daddy, will be my life always like this? Every day at the tannery, bowed, with a handing head? Shall I resign to this?” Cesare, noticed the turmoil of his son, stopped for a moment, with a tone firm, but full of love, invited him to look up: “Check the target far away, up there. If you concentrate on the ground, the best thing you will see is the point where you will stumble”.
